What other 315-year-old has a digital editing suite?

The Christopher Wren Building, built in 1695 (and still used for classes), is the oldest academic building in continuous use in the United States. It also has wireless high-speed Internet.

W&M has always been a singularly beautiful, historic campus, but with recent renovations and construction, it’s become a model of technological innovation, accessibility and comfort.

  • The Commons Dining Hall underwent an $11 million facelift in 2005, turning a standard college cafeteria into a stylish (and delicious) social gathering space called the Fresh Food Company.
  • The newly renovated and expanded Recreation Center (2006) includes three gyms, a 25 yard, eight lane pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indoor climbing wall and even a juice bar.
  • The $57 million Integrated Science Center (May 2008) provides biology, chemistry and psychology students and faculty with the best lab equipment and cutting-edge research facilities money can buy.
  • The renovated Lake Matoaka Amphitheater (2007) creates an inspiring, open-air venue for student and professional theater and musical performances.
  • The Earl Gregg Swem Library, the College’s main library, underwent significant renovations and expansions in 2005. Highlights include the creation of an amazing Media Center with nine fully equipped digital recording and editing suites and a state-of-the-art Special Collections Research Center that houses a splendid collection of manuscripts and rare books. With plenty of group work spaces and comfortable furniture, Swem is a favorite place to study. The library’s coffee bar, the Mews, provides a tasty break.
  • The Campus Center and the Sadler Center provide spacious, state-of-the-art meeting and conference rooms, a game lounge, tons of healthy and delicious dining options, coffee shops and office space for campus groups and College administrators.
  • As one of the nation’s “most unwired” campuses, W&M students enjoy wireless high-speed Internet access in nearly every indoor and outdoor space on campus.
